Death in Meath of former Westminister priest
Monday, February 1st, 2010Tributes are been paid in the Diocese of Meath and beyond this week to a local priest who is also a former priest of the Archdiocese of Westminster in England who passed away this week.
Fr Seamus Dunican (pictured), PP Rahan is a former parish priest of Kiltale and Moynalvey in County Meath and served for a time in the Diocese of Westminster.
A native of Ardcath, Co Meath, he was ordained in 1963 and initially served for brief periods in Navan and Rahan. The following year, he began his ministry in the Archdiocese of Westminster and, in 1970 – 1971 and while there he worked at Saint Mary's, Strawberry Hill.
He taught at Saint Patrick's Classical School in Navan from September 1971 until his prominent appointment as chaplain to the Defence Forces at Gormanstown in August 1981.
He became Parish Priest of Moynalvey in September 1991 and, ten years later, he moved to Rahan. Fr Dunican’s requiem mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Meath Dr Michael Smith on January 27th last.
